Description
This volume was compiled for the use of tantrikas attending the 2009 Shambhala Vajrayana Seminary at Dechen Chöling in Limoges, France. Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche has said that his own teachings presumes knowledge of --
or at least familiarity with -- material presented by the Vidyadhara Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Particularly in the case of vajrayana, Trungpa Rinpoche has left his students, and now Sakyong Rinpoche's students, an astonishing body of oral instructions. The teachings on the ngöndro here have been embedded in a manual describing the practices of the
Karma Kamstang Ngöndro--
colloquially called in our community "the Kagyu ngöndro." For many years this was the standard practice students received upon completion of Vajradhatu Seminary (now Sacred World Assembly).
Tantrikas since 2005 have begun by practicing the
Primordial Rigden Ngöndro.
The Vidyadhara's instructions focus on general attitude and view: how to be a tantrika. Trungpa Rinpoche gave pointed teachings on how each of the ngöndro practices functioned, especially in combination with one another, and on how they prepared the faithful student for the empowerments of a formal abhisheka.
